Closing a pool down properly is what determines how much work spring reopening takes. A proper winterising treatment protects against algae and staining while the pool sits unused and covered for months, so you’re testing the water and diving back in come spring, not fighting a green pool. Our Winterlong range is formulated specifically for this off-season period, added once the water’s balanced and before the cover goes on.
Balance the water fully, pH, chlorine and alkalinity, before you close up, then add a winterising treatment like our Winterlong range to protect against algae and staining while the pool is covered. Follow the dosing instructions for your pool volume, then keep the cover on until you reopen in spring.
Once water temperature drops consistently below around 15-16°C and you’ve stopped using the pool for the season, usually mid-to-late autumn in the UK. Closing too early, while you’re still swimming, risks algae taking hold before the pool’s properly sealed.
